Buying Thai exports: product checks, packing and shipment planning
Thai sugar, starch, rice, fruit ingredients, rubber and feed materials serve very different receiving operations. An effective buying brief explains what the product must do, how quality will be assessed and how the consignment will be handled. Use this guide to prepare an enquiry for BlueQuarry Bulk Trading and compare offers on a consistent basis.
The Thai export catalogue covers eight enquiry-led product families. Exact forms, grades, availability, packing and commercial terms are established in the offer. These buying questions help define a request; they do not represent guaranteed specifications, test results or certified status.
Thailand's 2024 export context
The Office of Agricultural Economics' Thailand Foreign Agricultural Trade Statistics 2024, published July 2025 using Thai Customs data, reports national exports of 2,322,935 metric tons of refined sugar and 2,005,257 metric tons of cassava chips in 2024. These are separate Table 6 categories, on printed pages 31 and 22 respectively. The cassava-chip quantity should not be used as a tapioca-starch figure. Source: OAE 2024 trade statistics.
The Government Public Relations Department, citing the Department of Foreign Trade, reported 9.95 million tons of national rice exports for 2024 on 30 January 2025. That rounded total includes multiple rice types. Source: Thai Government PRD. All three quantities describe Thailand's trade, not BlueQuarry's shipments, inventory or capacity. Origin and quality must still be documented for the offered lot.
Eight product briefs buyers can prepare
Sugar: agree the form and the colour method
State refined white, raw or another specific sugar form, together with the food or processing application. Discuss polarisation or sucrose content, colour with its specified method, moisture, ash and grain-size distribution. A colour number without the method and product description is an incomplete comparison. Include relevant contaminant and microbiological requirements where your application calls for them.
Specify food-contact packing, net mass, lot marks, pallet needs and whether discharge will be manual or mechanical. Bags, bulk bags or bulk arrangements require confirmation against the supplier and receiving system. Protect dry sugar from moisture and foreign odours during storage and transport. The Codex standard for sugars distinguishes sugar identities; the offered specification and agreed methods govern a purchasing comparison.
Tapioca starch: define native or modified material
Identify native or a specifically described modified starch, the application and the behaviour your process needs. For a native-starch brief, discuss moisture, starch content, ash, pH, whiteness where relevant, particle size and microbiological criteria. If viscosity or gelatinisation behaviour matters, state the test conditions as well as the target; results from different conditions may not be comparable.
Thailand's TIS 274-2565 standard, effective 18 January 2023, covers tapioca starch for cooking and food-industry use and excludes modified starch. Its scope should not be extended to every starch material. Source: Thai Industrial Standards Institute. Discuss moisture-protective food-contact bags or another accepted format, package integrity, dust control and contamination prevention. An industrial-use enquiry requires its own suitability review.
Rubber inputs: distinguish solid forms from latex
Explain the manufacturing process, material form and requested grade. A solid natural-rubber brief may include dirt, ash, volatile matter, Mooney viscosity, plasticity and plasticity-retention requirements. Ask which tests apply to the grade and request lot identification. Thailand's Rubber Intelligence Unit describes technically assessed rubber properties in its background on block rubber. Source: Office of Industrial Economics, 8 September 2013.
Latex needs separate dry-rubber content, total-solids, stabilisation and safety information. Protected bales or sheets and liquid containment involve different loading arrangements. Confirm packaging compatibility, storage conditions and the receiving equipment for the offered form. A named grade is an enquiry requirement until the supplier confirms the material and supporting documents; it should not be inferred from a generic rubber illustration.
Feed ingredients: identify the ingredient before composition
“Feed ingredients” is a category, so name the actual material, origin and processing history. Explain the target feed application and request moisture, protein, fat, fibre, ash, particle size and relevant contaminant tests. State the reporting basis and sampling method. If discussing rice-milling co-products, distinguish the proposed ingredient and any stabilisation treatment rather than treating every material as interchangeable.
Agree bags, bulk bags or approved bulk handling around the receiving system, with lot marks, pest prevention and moisture protection. Review storage history and oxidation concerns for oil-rich materials with the supplier. The FAO/IFIF Good practices for the feed industry, 2010 addresses feed safety and sampling. It provides general practice context, not approval of an ingredient for every species or formulation.
Rice: specify variety, milling and broken kernels
Identify the required variety and husked, milled or parboiled form, then discuss crop year where needed, grain dimensions, broken-kernel allowance, moisture, foreign matter and damaged or discoloured grains. Include cooking or processing requirements and a sample review. A fragrant-rice or named-variety request should also state the authenticity evidence required.
Agree food-contact bags, net mass, label language, case or pallet format and lot markings. Plan clean, dry equipment, pest prevention and condensation management. Treatment and any organic or origin certification must be supported for the actual consignment. The Codex rice standard covers husked, milled and parboiled rice within its scope; it excludes glutinous rice and other rice-derived products.
Canned pineapple: compare usable fruit and presentation
Specify slices, pieces, crushed fruit or another defined style, with juice or syrup packing medium. Agree net weight and drained weight separately, relevant soluble-solids requirements, fruit texture, uniformity, defects and can construction. Two cans with the same net weight can contain different amounts of usable drained fruit, so price comparisons should match the required pack.
Confirm case count, pallet arrangement, label language, lot coding and producer-supported production and best-before information. Protect cans and cartons from impact, crushing and damp conditions, and agree how damaged or leaking containers will be handled. The pineapple annex of the Codex standard for certain canned fruits distinguishes styles and drained-weight criteria. Available pack sizes and label services require supplier confirmation.
Cassava chips: define composition and physical condition
Dried cassava chips are a distinct material from tapioca starch. State the intended feed or industrial process and discuss starch, moisture, fibre, dirt or sand, other foreign matter, chip dimensions and fines. Include mould, pest and relevant contaminant criteria with the required sampling and weight-determination approach. A product name alone does not establish suitability for the receiving process.
Bags or bulk arrangements depend on the lot, carrier, terminal and discharge system. Discuss rain protection, dust control and dry-cargo condition before booking equipment. Thailand's official 2024 trade statistics list chips separately from cassava flour and pellets, reinforcing why the exact identity belongs in the enquiry and documents. Source: OAE, Table 6, printed page 22.
Molasses: specify composition and discharge requirements
Cane molasses is a liquid sugar-processing co-product used in defined feed and fermentation applications. State the intended use, total-sugar requirements, soluble solids or Brix with its method, moisture, ash and relevant contaminants. Density and viscosity should be reported at stated conditions when they matter to transfer or receiving equipment.
Discuss compatible tanks or another approved liquid format, cleanliness, previous cargo, fittings, hoses and discharge capability. Agree any temperature management with the supplier and carrier for the actual product. A general heating setting or assumed flexitank acceptance is insufficient. FAO's Sugarcane as feed, 1988 explains molasses as a residual syrup and its fermentation uses. This historical reference supports product background rather than current trade or commercial terms.
Compare cargo arrangements before choosing the port
For dry food ingredients, review moisture protection, clean handling, odour segregation and package integrity. Rubber needs a plan suited to its solid or liquid form. Canned fruit requires packaging and closure protection. Molasses needs compatible containment and a workable discharge plan. These differences should shape the equipment request before a freight comparison.

Prepare an enquiry and document checklist
Send product identity, form, intended use and specification, including units, test methods, sampling basis and sample-approval requirements.
State quantity, preferred packing, receiving location and requested shipment period. Include the Incoterms rule and named place if known so offers use the same delivery basis.
Match the commercial invoice, packing information, transport documents, origin evidence and proposed analysis records to the order and lot marks.
Ask the exporter and destination broker which licences, health or phytosanitary documents, treatment records and origin certificates apply. Confirm required wording and timing before booking.
